There is no general answer to this question, as each case is different, just as the care of a hedgehog varies from case to case.
In order to provide initial care in all cases, the care centre must also have all the medicines and products required for initial care.
Injuries:
Rivanol/wound irrigation
Antibiotics
Nekrolyt/Manuka wound ointment
Kataspir maggot suction device
Capstar tablets
Skin fungus/ectoparasites such as
mites/fleas/ticks
Permethrin/coconut oil
Imaverol
Dectomax
Lethargy/shortness of breath
Vitamin B complex
Vitamin B12 Catosal
Cortisone
Deworming with anti-parasitic drugs
Inhaler
Emaciated & Loss of Appetite
Reconvales
Infusion Solution
Test Kit Giardia/Cryptosporidium
The following steps are usually taken for every hedgehog:
A faecal examination is arranged. This costs between 12€ and 30€. Thanks to the practical seminar and my own microscope, I can arrange this myself.
The hedgehog is given permethrin in its spines to combat fleas
The hedgehog is dewormed prophylactically against intestinal worms with praziquantel (Droncit tablet, Vetbancid).
The hedgehog is dewormed accordingly after a faecal examination. 95% effective against lungworms with levamisole/Dectomax oil mixture and/or flubenol against hairworm eggs.
A hedgehog needs food and eats approx. 200 g per night of wet food/dry food, scrambled eggs and also mealworms/soldier fly larvae/zophobas
Depending on the case, the following may also be required:
Antibiotics for wounds/maggots/abscesses/pus, regardless of location
Giardia/cryptosporidium test for loss of appetite/noticeably green faeces for ~15€
X-ray at the vet for ~30€
Antibiogram at the vet for ~100€
With an average care period of at least 2 to 4 weeks, this can cost from at least 50€ to 150/200€ or more.
